Miami, FL – December 7, 2022 – Dr. Shireen Rahimi, an award-winning underwater filmmaker, environmental scientist, and the founder of Lightpalace Productions in Miami, is screening her new short film on December 14th at an Invite-only VIP preview at the Standard Hotel. The film will then debut at the Oolite Art’s Local Love Letters premier event at Soundscape Park on December 15th.

Titled “Letter From The Age of Ecocide,” Dr. Rahimi’s film is a short underwater narrative about climate anxiety told through the ancient poetry of her Persian ancestors. Dr. Rahimi’s intention with the film is to encourage discussion, reflection, and emotional release around the pain we feel for our ailing planet.

Earlier this year, Oolite Arts asked filmmakers to tell them about their favorite Miami Beach places in a short film contest titled “Local Love Letters.” The nine winning filmmakers received $5,000 each to develop a 3- to 5-minute short film.

“With this piece, I wanted to create a new type of environmental film that uses metaphor and surrealism to create space for healing and reflection around our collective feelings of planetary despair. Because to fight for our planet, we also have to heal. This story taps into my ancestors’ spiritual wisdom during intense turmoil in my homeland of Iran. I dedicate this film, with all my heart, to my sisters and brothers in Iran as they fight for an even more acutely uncertain future,” said Dr. Rahimi.
